ABOUT THE CLUB

Club Background

Durham County Football Club was established in 1992 when local lad Jeff Bowes noticed that youngsters were football daft but were not playing for any football teams at that time.

Initially he formed two teams of Under 11's and 12's and in their first year played friendlies against local teams before joining the Russell Foster Youth League in season 1993/4.

As more youngsters of varying ages became interested in the development of the Club several new teams were formed.

Durham County F.C. are now one of the largest clubs in the Russell Foster Youth and Durham FA Leagues with over 20 teams, both boys and girls, ranging from Under 8's through to seniors for season 2009/2010.

Durham county now have a senior team playing in the Peterlee and District league for season 2009/2010

Club aims and objectives:

The aim of the club is to encourage youngsters in the area to participate in the sport and enjoy the game within a competitive spirit.

The 4 specific objectives of the club are:

1.To provide quality, safe opportunities for young people of all ages in our community

2.Provide a safe and positive alternative place to go other than playing on the streets

3.Help people to realise their potential, develop personal skill and confidence

4.To introduce people to football regardless of age, sex, religion, ethnic background, ability and sexual orientation

During the course of the past years the skills of some of the youngsters have been recognised by the professional clubs in the area, eg. Sunderland, Newcastle United, Middlesbrough etc., who have invited them to join their Academies and Development Centres.

Within the last two years the club has been endeavouring to achieve higher footballing standards for the benefit of the youngsters.

To achieve this aim several managers within the club have qualified as football referees as well as acquiring official FA coaching certificates.

Durham County have recently achieved FA Community Charter Standard, which we thanks to everbody's efforts.

We are always keen to hear from people who may be interested in joining the football club so please feel free to contact us via our website or by telephoning any of the Managers.
